Meganisi is a destination that is ideally suited for exploring by boat. A large part of tourism arrives by private watercraft and moves around the island with it. In fact, if one does not make stops, the round takes a little more than an hour with a simple boat. You will have the opportunity to admire the natural formations of the island, see secluded beaches and coves with privately owned piers under luxury residences and finally approach fantastic shores for a dip in their waters.

However, if you do not choose this mode of transportation, there is also the road network. Although its partial development is ongoing, it fully covers the settlements and beaches and the driving distances are extremely short.

Fanari

Fanari beach from above.

Beach in the Akonia area with a picturesque beach and turquoise waters reminiscent of a swimming pool. It got its name from the stone lighthouse located there. The two beach bars located on this beach provide bathers with all the comforts of an organized beach. Fanari is probably the busiest beach of Meganisi, and that’s because it’s incredibly beautiful.

In the summer of 2023, the Seatrac system was also installed on this particular beach, which allows people with disabilities and mobility problems to enter the sea independently! See more here.

Karakofolia

If you want something quieter and more secluded in the same area, there is the ideal spot for you. A number of coves are located next to Fanari such as Karakofolia beach. To the left of the Fanario, behind the large beach bar, follow the uphill paved road, as the corresponding sign says, and turn into the first dirt street (Caution! Attention!Behind the beach bar there is a dirt road that continues straight parallel to the sea: do not follow it, it will lead you to Karakofolia).

Go down the path and you will find yourself on top of a rock. Carefully go down the rocks and find yourself in the first creek. Then select the spot you want to dive. You can pass from cove to cove by walking through the sea.

Stravounami or Ammoglossa

Stravounami beach or sand tongue from above.

On the north side of the island, opposite the islet of Thilia, stretches Stravounami or Ammoglossa beach, which promises moments of real relaxation. The bottom has fine gravel while a newly opened canteen offers the comforts of an organized beach, always with respect to the natural landscape.

On the road from Ammoglossa to Agios Ioannis there is a restaurant in a beautiful garden. IL PARADISO is a family business made with taste and passion. Olive trees, lanterns and wooden tables compose the atmosphere of this heavenly location. Unreservedly recommended for roasts of the hour, stews and seafood. The tavern even has a jetty, where patrons leave their inflatables. In the center of the site there is a pavilion hosting an exhibition of paintings by the German artist Lydia Van Fondern.

Agios Ioannis

Agios Ioannis beach and the church of the same name.

A beach with turquoise waters that stretches in front of the temple of the same name. A beautiful place for a calm swim facing the mountain of Poros that stretches in the background. The road above the church leads to a fairly long beach. A lake dried up during the summer months composes the landscape of the area. So one can stop in front of the lake for a swim or continue on the dirt road at the end of the asphalt, either by car or walking 2-3 minutes later you will find yourself in front of a lacy coast with crystal clear waters. All you have to do is choose the right spot and enjoy this paradise on earth.

Pasumaki or Pasimakia

The small but beautiful Pasumaki beach.

Two vaults, the upper and the lower passage, to the left of the entrance to Vatheos Bay. Their noses look like two slippers. The lower one, which is towards Vathi, is also called Polyvolos. Between them stretches a tiny beach, a cove with calm waters and unparalleled natural beauty.

Elia

The beach of Elia from above.

Beach of the settlement of Katomeri with relatively small gravel and amber waters. It is located in the bay of the same name and is accessible both by sea and by road.
