Meganissi is located southeast of Lefkada and is the largest of the Televoides islands, with a coastline reminiscent of a fjord.

The islands of Skorpios and Sparti administratively belong to the Municipality of Meganisi. The Municipality has an area of 22,356 km². Its total population was 1041 people at the 2021 census.

Meganisi, despite its small size, provides residents and visitors with a wide range of services. In recent years, through a series of major infrastructure projects: upgrading the road network, water infrastructure and solid waste management, it has been modernized and renewed without losing its picturesqueness and character.

Sailboats moored in Vathi

There are three settlements on the island. Vathy, a traditional fishing village with a picturesque port, which is a tourist resort and a favorite destination for yachtsmen. Spartochori, built high, with traditional houses, narrow alleys and amazing views. From a path drowned in greenery, which hides on its way the Cave of the Cyclops, you descend to its port, the Caves. Finally, Katomeri, also a traditional village, built on a hill overlooking the bay of Atherino.

The island keeps its traditional character with beautiful stone houses, picturesque harbors, old windmills, but at the same time it has a large tourist development with ultra-modern hotel units.

Its continuous closed bays hide small beaches such as Spilia, Pasumaki, Ampelakia, Fanari, Limonari, Elia, Loutrolimni, Bereta, as well as the beach of Ai Giannis with the historical church of the same name.

Of particular interest is the peninsula in the south of the island, which ends at Cape Kefali, with its wild landscape, the old chapel of Agios Grigorios and the caves of Papanikoli and Giovani accessible from the sea.

The island is connected by ferry to Nydri with daily routes, with an open type ferry. The distance takes about 25 minutes and the ship approaches Spilia port.
